When the Sox weren't sellin' out

I was recently talking Red Sox with a friend and the topic came up about ticket prices and sellouts. Apparently Fenway Park always sells out and is always filled to capacity.

This made me recall a different day, not very long ago. My dad was a Boston Police Officer for 32 years. During that time he worked in the District where Fenway Park is located. Fenway Park needs to hire police details for every game. In the years 1979, 80, 81 the Sox were not selling out. As a matter of fact they probably filled half the park. My dad would take me and a buddy to the game with him. We would obviously get in free but then since the stands were only half full we would move our seats every inning. It was beyond cool for two 12 year old boys to be able to just move about the stands and take in a different perspective every inning.

It is an experience I will never forget and I feel blessed to have had the opportunity.
